Voices of Liberation
2024
Artwork collection Insaan
Acrylic & gouache paintings
The exhibition Voices of Liberation Curated by anti-racist consultant and therapist Mona Laskar, explores the effects of working beyond Western psychology weaving in creativity and spirituality into her practice. Despite these efforts, gatekeeping, historical erasure, and whitewashing in the art industry continue to exclude racialised and religious minorities from being represented and access art for collective healing. Voices of Liberation aims to challenge these barriers by providing a platform for liberating voices to present art that embodies their courage, resilience, and hope in the fight against racism and social injustice. The theme of the exhibition is grounded in the belief that art can serve as a catalyst for social change and collective healing when approached from a decolonial lens. What does liberation from racism mean to you? How do we hold ourselves accountable in dismantling racism? What fuels your strength to continue the fight against racism? What is your narrative? These are some of the questions explored by the artists.
In this exhibition Shama is showcasing the full collection called Insaan (human in Farsi). The collection contains two of her biggest acrylic paintings Esoteric & Exoteric and two gouache paintings; Emotion converter & Emotion bank.
